New Braunfels is the perfect place for a weekend escape from it all. We've built an itinerary sure to help you recharge and reconnect.
Book accommodations
New Braunfels offers beautiful and romantic boutique hotels like Sophie's Gasthaus, Prince Solms Inn, Gruene River Hotel & Retreat and Gruene Mansion Inn perfect for your escape. If you prefer the familiarity and amenities of a national hotel brand, book Courtyard by Marriott or one of these hotels.
Day 1: Discover Downtown
Sleep in and enjoy a lazy morning over coffee in your hotel. In New Braunfels you can be where you want in just a few minutes and we specialize in low stress.
For breakfast head to 2tarts for homemade sweet and savory treats and coffee. Krause's and The Mess Around at Crosswalk both also offer great menus and ambiance.
Saturdays in Downtown New Braunfels always start with the Farmers Market. Meet over 60 vendors who offer locally-produced food, home and personal care items, pet supplies and more. Spend the rest of the morning enjoying downtown's locally-owned boutiques and specialty stores.
Huisache is a perfect, quaint spot for lunch and is a go-to for locals. For a cajun flair, you two will love the menu and vibe of McAdoo's Seafood Co. & Oyster Bar.
After lunch, we'd suggest a stroll through downtown's galleries - Lark Mason & Associates, New Braunfels Art League Gallery and Mill Street Art Gallery for one-of-a-kind pieces. The Historic Outdoor Art Museum features building-sized murals depicting the rich, unique history of New Braunfels.
Have a drink and appetizer at Muck & Fuss before dinner. Make a reservation at Myron's Prime Steakhouse or Cody's for an unforgettable romantic dinner. Both are in the heart of Downtown.
After dinner, see what's playing at the Brauntex Theatre - downtown's home for live music, performing arts, comedy shows and touring acts. Lots of shows sell out, so plan ahead!
Round out the evening downstairs at Sidecar, a dimly-lit underground sanctuary, for a cocktail and enjoy the ambience while listening to live music in an intimate setting.
Day 2: Explore Gruene
If it's a Sunday, for sure consider McAdoo's Seafood Co. for brunch and their famous Bloody Mary Bar before you head over to Gruene. If you want to stop on the quick drive over, grab a table at Buttermilk Cafe for breakfast.
Make your way to Gruene Historic District. If it's a Gruene Market Days weekend you two are in for some amazing shopping from over 100 artisans who sell their one of a kind items. Otherwise never fear, Gruene is known for plenty of unique shopping in a setting just as special. Be sure to visit Gruene Antique Company, The Pomegranate, Gruene Outfitters, Fickle Pickles, Gruene Hat Company, and we could go on an on so check out the other stores too!
For lunch, get a table by the windows at Gruene River Grill or outside, y'all will love the view overlooking the Guadalupe River. Or try the fun ambiance and creative menu in the heart of Gruene at Mozie's. After dining, it's time for souvenirs. Grab a shirt from Cotton Eyed Joe's or basically anything from Gruene General Store. While you're there it'd be a mistake to skip the fudge. Trust us now, thank us later.
Shopping and eating are hard work. Spend the afternoon relaxing with a drink and live music at Gruene Grove, The Grapevine, or The Villa.
For dinner, get a table in the iconic Gristmill. The cozy atmosphere will warm your heart as much as the fireplaces.
Next door is Gruene Hall - the oldest continually operating dancehall in Texas. See what's playing and buy tickets in advance if needed. A night with a longneck or wine and some awesome music from one of your favorite artists is a wonderful end to your day.
But wait there's more!
If you like history, visit a New Braunfels museum like Sophienburg, Conservation Plaza or Heritage Village. Or how about a self-guided walking tour of historic structures in the area? Check out Downtown Walking Tour and Gruene Walking Tour.
For massages make reservations at The Retreat or Gruene Day Spa.
Now that the weekend is planned for you and your special someone, make your reservations and we'll see you soon! Look forward to welcoming you to New Braunfels for some much needed R&R.
